Lucy the Elephant

Lucy the Elephant is the world’s largest elephant and the only one in America designated as a National Historic Landmark. She was built in 1881 by James V. Lafferty, a real estate developer with a knack for promotion. Standing six stories tall, weighing 90 tons, covered with 12,000 square feet of sheet tin, Lucy was more than an object of awe– she was a funtioning building, serving first as a real estate office, as a summer home and even briefly as a tavern. For a small admission fee, the adventuresome can now tour Lucy’s innards, entering via a spiral staircase in one of her hind legs. The tour climaxes with a stop in the open-air “howdah” atop Lucy’s back. Lucy gives people a reason to visit Margate City, New Jersey.

Fred Segal Fun Style

Once every other year or two Fred Segal Fun Style calls to have me paint their greeting card and stickers for all of the packages that they wrap throughout the year. In 2004 I did one that they love so much that they keep having it reprinted which is a compliment and fine with me. Even though I loved coming up with new images I captured most of their needs in this card so I’m happy that they love it so much! The sticker is pretty cute too. So they just called and ordered more cards which will last 2 years so I will probably hear from them in 2009.

This is one of my favourite boxes to make and this particular box is from a recycled box of chocolates that I received for Valentines and I kept it for myself. They are completely hand painted and embellished with words and Morning Glory girl from my Flower Garden Girl collection. These boxes look like confections but if you filled this with the chocolate of your choice your Valentine would be pleased! I have some Valentines for sale on Etsy. Click on to my etsy store Valerie Gallerie 2 link on the left. I know I’m a little early but I love the imagery of vintage Valentines, I love making Valentines and love the colours!!!
